Language Program

The overall language of instruction in Qatar-Finland International School is English, apart from Arabic mother tongue and Islamic studies in Arabic.

In Qatar-Finland International School, students are heterogenous when it comes to their level of proficiency in the English language. English language skills are developed and assessed through multiple approaches in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and multi-literacy. Our teachers deploy an approach called Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) to support and develop students’ language skills.

According to our language program, students can choose studies in Arabic, French or Spanish. The program includes a compulsory advanced level language (First foreign language A1) and a standard level language (Second foreign language, B2) Students may also choose an additional optional language (Third foreign language, B2). Arabic mother tongue is taught according to the Qatari regulatios.

Language program complies with the following steps:
  • Kindergarten: All students are offered ana opportunity to attend Arabic lessons. Arabic Mother Tongue (AMT) lessons are compulsory for Arabic passport holders.
  • Grades 0: Language shower introducing Arabic, French, Spanish, one term for each language. Arabic Mother Tongue lessons are compulsory for Arabic passport holders.
  • Grades 1-6: Students study their chosen A1 language for four lessons weekly. Arabic Mother Tongue lessons are compulsory for Arabic passport holders.
  • Grades 7-9: Students continue studying their chosen A1 language/ Arabic Mother Tongue, and in addition they are choosing their second foreign language (B2), which will be studied for two lessons weekly.
  • Grades 10-12: Students continue studying A1/ Arabic Mother Tongue for total of 8 modules. B2 language is optional. It includes 6 modules. Students also have a possibility to choose an optional B3-language (Arabic, French and German). B3-language includes 8 modules. B2 and B3 languages require a minimum number of students
